What a couple of weeks! Long story short, we had to go to TJ...It was not a vacation, but it was sort of a field trip. I remember going with my mom for the day. We would go to the old Greyhound station and take a van to Tijuana.
Tijuana is not the same since there are reports of more crime and people are hesitant on going. There are places that have closed down. People still go, but it isn't what it used to be. When we went there was an arts festival and there was an incredible artist that made things out of metal. His name is Jesus Flores Rivera.
This is a man we met on the bridge over that takes you to calle Revolucion ( one on the main strips in Tijuana). He sits on a skateboard everyday selling gum to make some money. Pancho's sister gave him the skateboard he has and he put a cushion on it because it is easier to get around because of the trouble with his legs(we didn't want to be intrusive and ask but it seems that he is missing a leg and before Pancho's sister gave him the skateboard, he was dragging himself). We gave him a shirt and some money. She tells me that he is always seems in good spirits and optimistic. I couldn't imagine what life is like for him. I'm sure it is difficult, but what is important is that he has the will to make it out and smile. Sometimes we seem to be bombarded with our lives and it seems to get worse before it gets better. One thing that helps me calm down is begin to think of things that I am thankful for having and things that bring me happiness and peace. I remember the days that I have been without..and I have come a long way..Everyday is a gift.
